Components of Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)

Posted by admin on Apr 7, 2011 in Telcom

MPLS is an efficient technology that has made sending of data quick and easy. MPLS helps increase the speed of routers and transfers data to other domains over internet. Components of Multiprotocol Label Switching are:

  • Labels that are short fixed length.
  • Label Switched Path (LSP) that helps transport data packets within an MPLS domain. It is unidirectional in nature.
  • Forwarding Equivalence Classes (FEC) share the same transport requirement.
  • Label Switching Router (LSR) is high speed router to switch data in the domains.
  • Label Distribution Protocol (LDP).
